Specialist treatment for treatment-resistant depression and PTSD
Avive Clinic Brisbane and Avive Clinic Mornington Peninsula are home to Empax Centre, which provides an intensive, psychiatrist-led treatment program for adults living with treatment-resistant depression and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
A referral from a GP, psychiatrist or other treating doctor is required.
Who the program is for
For people whose depression or PTSD hasn’t improved with standard treatment
The program is for people whose PTSD or depression hasn’t improved after trying standard treatments, such as medication and psychological therapy.
It is a carefully screened program and isn’t suitable for everyone, so every client has a thorough clinical assessment first.
How the program works
Four stages, with the same team throughout
Step 1
Assessment
2 appointments
A thorough clinical and psychiatric assessment to make sure the program is safe and suitable.
Step 2
Preparation
2 sessions
Getting to know your dedicated two-therapist team, who support you through the whole program.
Step 3
Treatment
Typically 3 treatment days, spaced 2 weeks apart
Each treatment day takes place in a private, calm room under close medical supervision, and is followed by 3 therapy sessions to help you process the experience.
Step 4
Follow-up
4 check-ins over 12 months
Regular check-ins at 3, 6, 9 and 12 months, with updates shared with your referring doctor.
Most of the program takes place over two to three months. Each program is tailored to the individual, and not everyone will be suitable.
Treatment rooms
Empax’s treatment rooms at Avive are purpose-designed to be private, calm and comfortable.
Funding
Funded pathways may be available for eligible clients, including through DVA, workers’ compensation, Medibank and some private health insurers.
